Houthi militia security threats in Yemen

Overview

In September 2026, Yemeni Ministry of Interior security sources warned citizens in liberated provinces, such as Taiz and Al Hudaydah, about a Houthi militia disinformation campaign. This campaign reportedly uses Yemen Mobile and YOU telecommunications networks to send text messages offering “amnesty and return.” Authorities characterized these messages as a form of psychological warfare and an entrapment tactic used to collect personal data, warning that responders could face imprisonment, torture, or enforced disappearance.

By October 2026, the focus expanded to include both ideological and physical security threats. Religious scholars called for a unified national discourse to protect the country’s identity from Houthi ideology. Concurrently, the Ministry of Interior reported the disruption of several Houthi-linked cells in Aden, Lahj, and Abyan through the ‘Fajr Yemen’ initiative. These operations included dismantling an 18-person network in Lahj and arresting an individual in Aden found with explosive devices, aimed at preventing attacks on military leaders and vital infrastructure.
