Human rights and environmental issues in Chad

Overview

In Chad, regulatory and human rights concerns have emerged across different sectors. The Ministry of Environment, Fisheries and Sustainable Development ordered the temporary suspension of three mat manufacturing companies in N’Djaména due to environmental violations, including poor waste management, lack of impact studies, and risks of soil and water pollution.

Separately, human rights concerns were raised regarding the incarceration of former minister and civil society member Fatimé Boukar Kosseï. Following one year of a ten-year prison sentence, Kosseï released a message describing her experiences in detention and calling for peace and solidarity among her compatriots.
