Human rights and memory initiatives in Concepción del Urúgu
Overview
In Concepción del Uruguay, local authorities and community groups are utilizing audiovisual media to promote human rights and collective memory.
The “Desde la Memoria” program, a collaboration between the Human Rights Directorate, the Municipality’s Culture Coordination, and AGMER Uruguay, recently extended its submission deadline for video projects to October 21. This year’s initiative honors Claudio “Pocho” Lepratti, marking 25 years since his assassination, by inviting students and the community to create “videominutos” regarding his legacy.
Complementing these efforts, the Culture Directorate and the Pocho Lepratti Group organized film sessions at Unidad Penal N° 4. These screenings, aimed at incarcerated individuals pursuing secondary education, focus on themes such as inclusion, equality of opportunity, and human rights to foster social transformation and critical thinking.
