Human trafficking investigations in Hung Yen karaoke venues

Overview

Police in Hung Yen province have been investigating human trafficking and labor exploitation occurring within the karaoke industry. Authorities noted that while most of the province’s approximately 800 karaoke and lodging businesses operate legally, some criminal elements have used job recruitment as a cover to control and transfer female employees for illicit profit.

Investigations have led to multiple prosecutions. In one instance, 14 defendants, including karaoke managers and handlers, were proposed for prosecution for human trafficking and illegal detention. More recent operations on August 30 identified four suspects involved in trafficking karaoke staff, including cases where victims were under the age of 18.
