Humanoid robot deployment for Chinese traffic management

Humanoid robots are being integrated into urban traffic management systems across Chinese cities to assist law enforcement and public services.

In Wuhu, Anhui province, robots developed by AiMOGA Robotics have been deployed to perform signaling tasks, detect illegally parked vehicles, and issue real-time voice warnings to electric scooter riders. These units are integrated with city traffic light systems and are designed to operate continuously to reduce police workloads during peak hours or extreme weather. They are also used in government administrative halls to provide public service guidance.

In Hangzhou and Changzhou, the firm SUPCON Information has deployed T2 humanoid robots to handle repetitive duties. These robots, standing approximately 1.9 meters tall and weighing 98 kilograms, use cameras, radar, and onboard computers to perform traffic gestures and identify violations such as pedestrians crossing against signals, riders failing to wear helmets, or vehicles carrying too many passengers. While they lack the authority to make arrests or carry weapons, they can provide parking information and emergency connections to local police.

Since May, the deployment of 15 robots in Hangzhou has reportedly resulted in over 170,000 warnings. SUPCON claims this has contributed to a reduction of more than 40 percent in specific monthly traffic violations, such as helmet misuse and illegal stopping at intersections, though these figures have not been independently verified.
