Hungarian household financial asset trends
Overview
Hungarian household wealth and savings patterns showed significant growth during the second quarter of 2026. Total securities wealth reached 38.24 trillion forints by the end of June, a 15.1 percent year-on-year increase driven by rising market prices and increased purchasing. Domestic holdings were primarily concentrated in government bonds and investment funds, while foreign securities saw a more dynamic year-on-year growth of 23 percent.
Simultaneously, foreign currency deposits reached a historical peak of 2,714 billion forints by the end of June. Despite a reduction in the value of existing holdings due to a strengthening forint, approximately 483 billion forints in new money flowed into these accounts over the three-month period. Analysts suggest that high-net-worth individuals and private banking clients are utilizing the strength of the forint as an entry point to increase foreign currency exposure.
