Hungary transport infrastructure and rail developments

Overview

Hungary is undergoing several infrastructure developments and operational changes within its transport network. In late August, road renovations in Győr were scheduled to conclude, restoring original traffic and bus routes following delays caused by utility issues. Additionally, the Tiszaújváros–Miskolc railway line was set to reopen, supported by a new feeder bus service to facilitate passenger transfers.

Following these developments, the government announced the restart of subsidies for single-wagon rail freight to improve competitiveness and reduce road congestion. However, the rail network has faced simultaneous operational challenges, including a freight train collision in Győr and technical failures in the Szeged region that caused service suspensions and required the deployment of replacement buses.
