Hvidovre abandoned vehicle dispute

Overview

Following a police raid on July 10 in the Grønnebro neighbourhood of Hvidovre, residents reported an abandoned Audi A6 on Svend Aagesens Allé 10B. The vehicle, which had its windows smashed and license plates removed, caused traffic obstructions and blocked a designated handicap parking space. This led to a dispute between the municipality and police regarding jurisdiction, with residents describing a “responsibility vacuum” as neither authority moved to remove the car.

Hvidovre Municipality later clarified its procedures for handling abandoned or illegally parked vehicles. The municipality stated that police hold primary authority for removing such vehicles. While the municipality can intervene directly, it requires that a vehicle has received three parking fines for the same violation and has undergone a minimum four-week hearing period. Regarding road classifications, the municipality noted that parking is prohibited based on signage regardless of whether a street is designated as a fire lane.
