Hybrid vehicle development in Brazil

Overview

Automakers are introducing new hybrid technologies to the Brazilian pickup truck market. Toyota announced the upcoming Corolla Deck, an intermediate unibody pickup expected to debut in Brazil by late 2027. This model will feature the region’s first flex-fuel plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system, combining a 2.0-liter engine with electric motors to produce approximately 223 cv.

Concurrently, Fiat is updating its Toro pickup line for the 2027 model year by incorporating mild hybrid (MHEV) technology. The 48V system will assist the 1.3 Turbo Flex T270 engine in Volcano MHEV T270 and Ultra versions. This implementation is intended to meet Proconve L8 emission standards and may provide consumers with regional tax reductions or exemptions from vehicle rotation schemes.
