Hyundai manufacturing investments in the United States

Overview

Hyundai Translead, a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Co., has increased its planned investment for new manufacturing operations in Will County, Illinois. The commitment has risen to approximately $600 million, an increase of $150 million from the original March announcement. This expansion is intended to establish two facilities by repurposing former Lion Electric and Caterpillar plants, with the goal of creating 3,750 full-time positions and adding a third production shift to meet customer demand.

In Louisiana, Hyundai-POSCO Louisiana Steel (HPLS) is also preparing for workforce expansion at its Ascension Parish plant. The company expects to hire between 230 and 300 employees by the end of 2027, with plans to reach approximately 1,000 employees in 2028 and an ultimate goal of roughly 1,400 workers. To support these developments, regional training initiatives are being established, including a Manufacturing Training Academy at Joliet Junior College in Illinois and the RPCC-Hyundai Training Center in Louisiana.
