Hyundai Motor Group autonomous driving strategy

Overview

Hyundai Motor Group has introduced a dual-track strategy for autonomous driving development, utilizing both external partnerships and proprietary technology. The group plans to use Nvidia’s Drive Hyperion 10 platform to bring Level 2+ and Level 2++ features to mass production by 2028.

In parallel, the company is developing its own end-to-end autonomous driving system, Atria AI, with a target for Level 2++ mass production in the second half of 2029. To support these advancements, the group launched the ‘Data Flywheel’ platform. This system creates a continuous loop of collecting real-world driving data from its global fleet of over 7 million annual vehicle sales to train and validate AI models.

The Data Flywheel architecture includes a shared environment called ‘Data Union,’ which involves collaboration between Hyundai Motor, Kia, Motional, and 42dot. This initiative aims to leverage large-scale data through hard example mining and virtual validation to refine autonomous capabilities.
