Ildong Bioscience probiotic research and market expansion

Ildong Bioscience, a subsidiary of Ildong Pharmaceutical Group, has advanced its research and commercialization efforts for functional probiotic materials.

In early September 2026, the company published research in the journal ‘Nutrients’ regarding its proprietary probiotic strain, ‘IDCC 1201’. A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving adults with functional bowel disorders showed that the strain led to a 50% reduction in abdominal bloating and a 65% decrease in post-defecation discomfort. Microbiome analysis indicated increases in bacteria such as Ruminococcus bromii, Bifidobacterium, and Agathobacter rectalis.

Following these research developments, Ildong Bioscience participated in the Vitafoods Asia exhibition in Bangkok, Thailand. The company showcased its R&D capabilities and various products, including ‘IDCC 1201’ for sleep improvement and ‘Bifidobacterium lactis IDCC 4301’ for body fat management. The company also presented its patented four-layer coating technology and expressed intentions to expand its presence in Southeast Asian, US, and European markets.
