Illegal gold mining enforcement in Gorontalo
Overview
The Gorontalo Regional Police (Polda Gorontalo) have conducted enforcement actions against illegal gold mining operations in the Gorontalo region.
In early September, authorities detained an individual identified as RP, the owner of an unauthorized mining site at Dam Hulawa in the Pohuwato Regency. The detention followed a landslide at the site on August 16, 2026, which caused fatalities and material losses. Investigations into potential involvement of other parties remain ongoing.
Later in the month, police conducted a raid in Tilangobula Village, Bone Bolango Regency. This operation resulted in the detention of nine individuals suspected of unauthorized mining and processing. Authorities seized various items, including 5 kg of mercury, acid, and processing tools. The case has been upgraded to a formal investigation, with preliminary findings suggesting the site is owned by an individual identified as CYN.
