ILT20 Season 5 player auction

Overview

The DP World ILT20 Season 5 player auction featured several high-value signings and record-breaking bids. Fazalhaq Farooqi led the auction with a USD 380,000 deal with MI Emirates, the highest signing amount in the tournament’s history. He was followed by Liam Livingstone at USD 350,000 with Gulf Giants, Rahmanullah Gurbaz at USD 310,000, and Faf du Plessis at USD 300,000.

In the Pakistani player category, the Desert Vipers secured Babar Azam, Naseem Shah, Fakhar Zaman, and Shadab Khan at their base price of USD 80,000. Additionally, Usman Tariq was signed by the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders for USD 80,000. UAE player Muhammad Waseem also set a league record for local talent, being signed for USD 210,000 by MI Emirates.

Following the auction, twenty-five players from Afghanistan were selected across six franchise squads. Under league playing conditions, each team is mandated to include four Afghanistan players in their squads, with a minimum of two required in every playing eleven.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) noted that these opportunities result from a strategic partnership with the ILT20 and the Emirates Cricket Board. ACB CEO Naseeb Khan stated that the auction has raised the profile of Afghanistan cricket and aims to provide sustained, long-term opportunities for the nation's players.
