Imathia regional development and infrastructure

Overview

The Imathia region in Greece has transitioned from the planning phase of a comprehensive development agenda to facing significant setbacks in key infrastructure projects.

Initially, the Greek government moved toward implementing a plan focused on infrastructure, social projects, and agricultural support. This included securing funding for Kouloura, modernizing the Selia Ski Center, improving road networks connecting Naoussa and Veria to the Egnatia Odos, and providing agricultural compensations for damages.

However, major transportation projects have since encountered substantial delays. The study for the road connection between Egnatia Odos, Veria, Naoussa, and Skydra has been extended to late 2028 due to administrative disputes. Additionally, the modernization of the Thessaloniki-Edessa railway line has stalled after electrification plans for the Platy-Edessa section were removed from the 2021-2027 Transport Program, resulting in reduced service frequency.
