Impersonation smishing scams targeting consumers
Overview
Cybercriminals are employing smishing and phishing techniques to target consumers through fraudulent SMS messages. These attacks involve impersonating well-known entities to create a sense of urgency.
In one instance, scammers impersonated the retailer Fnac during commercial events, using deceptive links to trick users into entering credit card details under the guise of confirming pending orders. In another instance, attackers impersonated the digital payments company Nexi, sending messages such as ‘Nexi Alert’ to claim unauthorized high-value transactions were in progress. These scams aim to manipulate victims into revealing security codes, login credentials, or authorizing fraudulent transfers through deceptive links or unverified phone calls.
