Incheon urban development and infrastructure planning

Incheon is pursuing various urban development and infrastructure projects to support regional growth. The Incheon Metropolitan Council has been reviewing the ‘Songdo Amusement Park Renaissance Master Plan’, specifically focusing on development blocks 2BL, 3BL, and 4BL. Discussions involve administrative procedures, profitability, and the potential relocation of a local used car complex to facilitate the project.

Simultaneously, city leadership is addressing infrastructure needs in Geomdan driven by rapid population expansion. Proposed improvements include extending Seoul Subway Line 5 and Incheon Subway Line 2, developing the Western Metropolitan Express Railway, and expanding bus routes to connect Geomdan New Town to Seoul. The city also plans to enhance local amenities through new museums, libraries, sports facilities, and various road projects to alleviate traffic congestion.

Recent efforts to secure funding for these initiatives include strengthened cooperation between Incheon Metropolitan City and the Democratic Party of Korea. During a consultative meeting, Mayor Park Chan-dae and Democratic Party Incheon City Chairman Heo Jong-sik discussed 30 key items, including 12 major projects requiring 210.7 billion won in national funds. These projects encompass the redevelopment of Incheon Port’s inner piers and the designation of Songdo as a global AI hub.

In Geomdan-gu, the city held a ‘Dialogue with Citizens’ to address growth. Plans include constructing 11 cultural and sports facilities, such as the Geomdan New City Museum, and exploring a new Geomdan-gu Office Station. To mitigate immediate traffic issues, the city will deploy 21 new buses on specific routes and expand public parking in Majeon-dong.
