India ex‑Agniveer job reservations
Entities: Ex‑Agniveers · Government of India · Ministry of Home Affairs · Sashastra Seema Bal
Overview
In late July 2026, India’s Ministry of Home Affairs announced a policy to reserve half of the recruitment posts in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and the Assam Rifles for former Agniveers—soldiers who had completed the four‑year Agnipath scheme. The announcement included age‑limit relaxations (five‑year extension for the first batch, three‑year for later batches) and exemption from the Physical Efficiency Test, aiming to provide stable employment for the scheme’s graduates and to bolster force personnel.
A week later, the Ministry formalised the rule for the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) through Gazette notifications. The 2026 SSB Constable recruitment rules set 54,109 posts, with 50 % reserved exclusively for ex‑Agniveers. These candidates are also exempted from the written examination, Physical Standard Test, and Physical Efficiency Test, and receive the same age‑relaxation benefits. The remaining half of the posts will be filled through an open competitive exam, and successful recruits will receive Level‑3 salaries ranging from ₹21,700 to ₹69,100 per month.
