In late July 2026, BJP senior leader Arun Chaturvedi accused the Congress of politicising past exam‑paper leaks and urged Congress figures to answer for incidents that affected millions of candidates. He highlighted a new parliamentary bill aimed at greater transparency in examinations, proposing penalties of up to ten years’ imprisonment and fines of ₹10 crore for future leaks.

Two days later, Congress General Secretary K C Venugopal countered that the government had capitulated to widespread student protests over alleged irregularities in exams such as NEET and CBSE. He noted that the pressure forced the government to introduce the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, which includes fast‑track courts and harsher punishments. Venugopal reiterated support for the youth, demanded the resignation of the minister overseeing the exam system, and called for parliamentary answers regarding police actions against students.
