India maritime and rail logistics expansion

Overview

The Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) has implemented new rail freight services to enhance domestic logistics connectivity.

In August, a new rail corridor was launched connecting Ennore Port to ICD Sanathnagar in Hyderabad, providing a sustainable alternative to road transport for cargo moving between the east coast and the Deccan plateau. During this period, the Chennai Port Authority also held stakeholder meetings to improve export cargo movement efficiency.

By September, CONCOR and Indian Railways expanded these efforts by launching an ‘Assured Transit Time’ container service between ICD-Whitefield in Bengaluru and ICD-Tughlakabad in Delhi. This service guarantees a 166-hour transit time for the 2,500-km journey, a reduction of approximately 30% compared to previous transit times. The service utilizes ICD-Tondiarpet in Chennai as an aggregation hub for rakes traveling toward Delhi, aiming to support industrial corridors in Karnataka.
