On July 27, 2026, Minister Dr Jitendra Singh introduced the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha, seeking to tighten safeguards against paper‑leak incidents and improve transparency in national examinations. He cited past leaks, such as the 2009 railway recruitment and the 2012 medical entrance exam, to argue for a more robust system.

The following day, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju criticised opposition parties for using the bill’s debate for political point‑scoring rather than discussing its provisions. Rijiju reiterated the legislation’s objective to curb exam paper leaks, described it as historic, and noted that the Modi government had set up a high‑powered task force to recommend further reforms. Both ministers urged Parliament to pass the bill for the benefit of students nationwide.
