India-US Yudh Abhyas military exercises

The 22nd edition of the Yudh Abhyas bilateral military exercise between the Indian and United States armies has commenced. The drills are being conducted at the Auli Foreign Training Node in Uttarakhand and the Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan, involving approximately 600 personnel from each side.

The exercise focuses on enhancing interoperability and joint military capabilities, specifically regarding Integrated Battle Groups in mountainous and semi-mountainous terrain. The training emphasizes infantry-dominated operations and the exchange of best operational practices. A significant component of this year’s training involves the deployment of Arctic-trained soldiers from the US Army’s 11th Airborne Division to India’s high-altitude regions.

Technological integration is a central theme, with training modules covering the use of drones and autonomous systems for surveillance and reconnaissance, alongside demonstrations of contemporary weapon systems. Subject matter experts from both nations are also engaging in discussions regarding emerging technologies and developments in multi-domain warfare to strengthen the bilateral defense partnership. The program includes command post exercises, field training, and live-fire demonstrations showcasing integrated command-and-control systems and long-range precision fires.
