These efforts follow a period of diplomatic tension between the two nations that began in 2023.

Simultaneously, Modi is expected to visit the United States to attend the G20 Leaders Summit at the Trump National Doral Miami in Florida on December 14 and 15. Hosted by President Donald Trump, the visit may include a bilateral meeting between the two leaders and preparations for a Quad summit involving India, the United States, Japan, and Australia. U.S. Ambassador Sergio Gor has indicated the United States would welcome the Prime Minister's return for the G20. While discussions regarding a potential subsequent visit to Canada have been noted, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has not yet released an official schedule.
