Indonesia-China trade expansion

In mid‑July 2026 Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto met with China’s Trade Minister Wang Wentao in Shanghai. The talks produced a memorandum of understanding that includes a "two‑countries twin park" scheme and outlined plans to boost industrial development in Indonesian special economic zones, projecting bilateral trade of US$167.5 billion for 2025 and citing a US$2.5 billion investment component.

Two weeks later, Trade Minister Budi Santoso announced further deepening of Indonesia’s economic ties, linking Chinese investment proposals with broader cooperation. A Chinese delegation from Jiangsu province presented a horticulture‑sector plan to develop supply‑chain infrastructure for premium fruits, while Indonesia also formalised commercial agreements with Morocco. The sequence shows Indonesia leveraging its partnership with China to attract sector‑specific investment and expanding its trade outreach to other markets.
