Indonesia digital infrastructure and transformation
Overview
Indonesia is pursuing several initiatives to strengthen its national digital infrastructure and transformation. The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has explored partnerships with Russia to enhance satellite technology and artificial intelligence through research laboratories and educational programs. Domestically, the country is prioritizing the expansion of Internet Exchange Points (IXP) to improve data security, reduce latency, and lower international bandwidth costs by keeping domestic traffic within national borders.
Furthering these efforts, Indonesian officials are studying India’s model for integrated public digital infrastructure to create a digital “rail” that connects identification, payment, and data exchange systems. Alongside these technical developments, the government is also addressing digital safety, specifically focusing on child protection in digital spaces and the implementation of regulations regarding parental consent and digital interaction management.
