Indonesia national data governance legislation
Overview
Indonesia has enacted the Satu Data Indonesia (SDI) Law, which establishes a new legal framework for national data governance to replace Presidential Regulation Number 39 of 2019. The legislation aims to create an integrated, secure, and interoperable data ecosystem to support evidence-based policymaking and ensure precise targeting for government programs like social assistance.
Following the enactment, members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) have called for rapid implementation of the law. Legislators are advocating for improved digital service interoperability between regional and vertical agencies to enhance public service quality. Additionally, there are calls for the Ministry of Finance to utilize the law to expand the tax base by integrating data across various ministries, such as mining, trade, and industry, to complement the existing Coretax system.
