Indonesia legal and police reforms, judge sanctions
Entities: Komisi Yudisial (Judicial Commission) · Hendro Dewanto · ST Burhanuddin · Akademi Kepolisian (Police Academy) · Mahkamah Agung (Supreme Court of Indonesia)
Overview
In early July 2026 President Prabowo Subianto signed Presidential Regulation No. 40/2026, creating seven new district prosecutor offices in Pangandaran, Serang, Tana Tidung, Kubu Raya, Lima Puluh Kota, Raja Ampat and Pesisir Barat to expand legal services.
Later that month the Attorney General's Office issued Decision No. KEP‑IV‑10122/C/07/2026, rotating 90 heads of regional prosecutor offices (Kajari) and reassigning 176 senior officials. The reshuffle appointed Arief Indra Kusuma Adhi as Kajari of Jakarta Barat, moved Nurul Wahida Rifal to an assistant role in the Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office, and reassigned other senior prosecutors.
Concurrently, the Judicial Commission recorded 1,402 public complaints, forwarded 676 for action and in late July recommended that the Supreme Court sanction 121 judges – a 147 % rise from the same period in 2025 – with a mix of warnings, light, medium and heavy penalties.
On 31 July 2026 the Indonesian National Police issued two telegrams rotating 146 senior and middle‑rank officers. Brigadier General Untung Widyatmoko was appointed Head of the International Relations Division, and 105 personnel received promotions, including four to Inspector General rank and two female officers to district police chief posts. The police chief presented the changes as routine organisational renewal, adding to the broader wave of security‑sector restructuring underway in Indonesia.
