Indonesia Sekolah Unggul Garuda education initiative

Overview

Indonesia is implementing the Sekolah Unggul Garuda initiative, a national strategic program aimed at enhancing human resource quality and national character. Initiated by President Prabowo Subianto, the program seeks to develop a competent workforce capable of managing the nation’s natural resources.

The initiative involves the establishment of 51 locations nationwide, including four new Garuda Excellence High Schools in Belitung Timur, Konawe Selatan, Bulungan, and Timor Tengah Selatan, as well as 47 existing transformation sites.

To support this educational ecosystem, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology has opened registration for the SMA Unggul Garuda Baru for the 2027/2028 academic year, offering international-standard curricula and full scholarships for high-achieving students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Additionally, Universitas Padjadjaran has introduced the Unpad Garuda Pass (UG-Pass) to provide graduates from participating high schools specialized access to International Undergraduate Program tracks, some of which include double degree options with international universities.
