Indonesia Soekarno‑Hatta Airport Expansion

On 1 July 2026 Indonesia’s Soekarno‑Hatta International Airport began operating the dedicated Hajj‑Umrah Terminal 2F, handling pilgrim flights for Loong Air, Hainan Airlines and Saudi Arabian Airlines. Airport operator PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia highlighted smooth first‑day operations resulting from coordination among regulators, airlines, Umrah travel organizers and other stakeholders.

At the same time, the Kediri regency in East Java announced a 65‑hectare site near the planned Dhoho International Airport to become a new Hajj embarkation hub from 2027, featuring road links, toll access, health facilities and ten hotels with 748 rooms to ease pressure on Surabaya’s dormitory and Jakarta‑Juanda Airport.

The government later reaffirmed its ambition to lift Soekarno‑Hatta into the world’s top‑10 airports by 2029. The transformation, overseen by InJourney Airports CEO Mohammad R. Pahlevi, follows three pillars—premises, people and process—with technology support. Key projects include the Special Hajj‑Umrah Terminal 2F opened by President Prabowo Subianto, the revitalised Terminal 1C, a four‑star Skytrax rating for Terminal 3, and ongoing refurbishment of Terminal 1A, targeting a rise in annual passenger capacity from 5.7 million to 10 million.

OAG data for July 2026 show Soekarno‑Hatta offering about 3.3 million seats, moving it to the second‑largest hub in Southeast Asia, a 3.2 % year‑on‑year increase driven by stronger international and domestic demand and a broader tourism recovery.
