Indonesia trade and logistics infrastructure development

Indonesia is implementing various measures to enhance its logistics ecosystem and trade efficiency. Initial efforts focused on regional support, including customs assistance for agricultural exporters in Balikpapan and Samarinda, and the establishment of a Bonded Logistics Center (PLB) in Semarang by Maersk Logistics Indonesia to streamline commodity management for European markets.

Subsequent strategies have shifted toward addressing port congestion and reducing logistics costs. The Indonesian Quarantine Agency is moving certain inspections to the country of origin to manage high volumes of fish imports. Additionally, the Directorate General of Customs and Excise is promoting the use of Bonded Logistics Centers to reduce dwelling times and port occupancy rates by allowing goods to be stored outside of port areas with tax and duty deferral benefits.

Recent developments include a major reorganization of the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC). Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa announced that officials from echelon II to IV are being reshuffled to improve state revenue collection and address internal corruption. Under this plan, high-performing employees are being moved to major revenue centers, while those with poor performance or suspected misconduct face transfer or dismissal.

In tandem with these administrative reforms, the Indonesia Quarantine Authority (Barantin) is strengthening biosecurity cooperation with New Zealand to align sanitary and phytosanitary protocols. The authority continues to implement pre-border quarantine measures at the country of origin to prevent domestic port congestion and rising logistics costs.
