Indonesia village cooperative funding and management

Overview

The Indonesian government is accelerating the implementation of the Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih (KDKMP) to serve as a primary distribution channel for subsidized goods. President Prabowo Subianto has mandated that these cooperatives handle the distribution of commodities such as rice, LPG, fertilizer, and cooking oil to ensure they reach the public more effectively.

Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan confirmed that managers for these cooperatives will be funded through the state budget (APBN) via the state-owned enterprise PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara (Persero). These managers will be employed under two-year fixed-term employment agreements (PKWT), with monthly salaries expected to range between Rp6.8 million and Rp8.3 million, depending on regional minimum wage standards.

Implementation efforts are currently underway across various regions. In Gunungkidul, local authorities are verifying 30 KDKMP outlets to ensure they are safe and equipped for operation. However, reports from Depok indicate that some outlets have struggled to become operational, with certain locations appearing inactive or closed.
