Indonesian aviation MRO expansion
Overview
Indonesian aviation entities are expanding their maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capabilities through several international partnerships.
Initially, PT Garuda Maintenance Facility Aero Asia Tbk (GMF) entered a long-term partnership with FTAI Aviation Ltd. to develop capacity for aircraft engine and Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) maintenance, specifically targeting CFM56 engines and GTCP131-9 series APUs. This collaboration was intended to expand GMF’s reach within the Asia-Pacific region and globally.
Following this, PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) secured a three-year agreement with Honeywell Aerospace to provide repair and maintenance services for various APU models to improve fleet reliability and cost predictability. Additionally, GMF AeroAsia signed a 20-year concession to operate and manage maintenance facilities at Muscat International Airport in Oman, aiming to support heavy maintenance and technical knowledge transfer in the region.
