Indonesian child protection monitoring and enforcement

The Indonesian Commission for Child Protection (KPAI) has been actively addressing child welfare through both individual case monitoring and systemic technological improvements.

In East Sumba, KPAI has been monitoring an alleged case of sexual violence involving a 13-year-old child. KPAI Chairperson Dian Sasmita noted that the victim is receiving assistance from the organization Sabana Sumba and emphasized that under the Sexual Violence Crimes Law (UU TPKS), victims are entitled to recovery and assistance through synergy between legal and social institutions.

To strengthen broader oversight, KPAI launched the third generation of the Child Protection Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting System (SIMEP PA) in Jakarta. This system is designed to monitor central and regional government implementation of child protection across dimensions such as regulation, capacity, and service accountability. KPAI Chairman Aris Adi Leksono stated the tool seeks to address gaps in existing services, while Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection Arifah Fauzi reported that her ministry handled 35,920 cases throughout 2025, noting that high figures reflect increased courage among victims to report incidents.
