Indonesian Hajj and Umrah infrastructure development

Overview

Indonesia is expanding infrastructure and facilities to support Hajj and Umrah pilgrimage services across different regions.

In Kediri Regency, the local government is preparing Dhoho International Airport to function as a Hajj embarkation site by 2027. Preparations include testing the airport for Umrah departures in November 2026, forming a cross-sector task force, and allocating land for a Hajj hotel. Efforts are also underway to improve airport accessibility through toll road land acquisition.

In North Sumatra, the Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah has broken ground on the Integrated Hajj and Umrah Service Center (PLHUT) in Serdang Bedagai. This facility, built on donated land, is expected to be completed by December 31, 2026. The project is part of a strategic policy to optimize services for approximately 5.7 million Indonesian pilgrims.
