Indonesian ojol driver safety and welfare initiatives
Overview
Indonesian authorities and partner organizations have launched initiatives to improve the safety and welfare of online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers.
In late August, the Indonesian National Police (Korlantas Polri) began training thousands of drivers in the Jabodetabek, Tangerang Selatan, and Mojokerto areas. This program focuses on traffic discipline and Emergency First Aid (PPGD) to reduce accident fatalities and encourage drivers to act as law enforcement partners.
Following this, the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment (Kemenko PM) partnered with Ruang Amal Indonesia and IFG Life to provide specialized support for deaf ojol drivers. This initiative aims to enhance economic independence and safety through training in financial literacy, safe riding, and social security. The program specifically targets members of the Komunitas Ojol Tunarungu Relawan Indonesia (KOTRI), addressing a community estimated at roughly 1,300 drivers in the Jabodetabek region.
