Indonesian police enforcement against noisy motorcycle exhau
Overview
Indonesian police have initiated enforcement actions against the use of non-standard, noisy motorcycle exhausts, locally referred to as ‘knalpot brong’.
In Kuningan, the police began by implementing pre-emptive and preventive strategies in the Ciawigebang District. These efforts focused on educational socialization to build public awareness and patrols to maintain traffic discipline and address noise complaints.
Following these efforts, regional operations expanded to other areas such as Tasikmalaya and Surakarta. In Tasikmalaya, joint operations involving the police, TNI, and Satpol PP resulted in the seizure of 23 motorcycles to curb noise disturbances and prevent street crime. In Surakarta, authorities seized 47 motorcycles during midnight operations targeting illegal street racing, noting that the noise had disturbed residents and hospital patients. In these regions, riders are required to replace illegal exhausts with standard ones and pay fines to reclaim their vehicles.
