Indramayu land and corruption investigations
Overview
The NGO PENJARA INDONESIA has initiated several legal and investigative actions in the Indramayu Regency regarding land disputes and alleged corruption.
In late August, the Indramayu Police began investigating reports of unauthorized control over state-owned embankment land in Sekarmulya Village, which is intended for flood control and irrigation. Concurrently, the NGO requested that the Indramayu Land Office block and cancel specific land ownership certificates in Sidadadi Village, alleging administrative errors that conflict with local farmers’ rights.
By late September, the focus of reported irregularities expanded to include infrastructure and procurement. Investigations into the Sukra-Wanguk road reconstruction project revealed significant flaws, such as insufficient asphalt thickness and the alleged use of bamboo weaving instead of geotextile materials. Additionally, allegations of a monopoly surfaced regarding the procurement of elementary school books using School Operational Assistance (BOS) funds across 49 schools in the Haurgeulis and Patrol districts, involving an estimated budget of Rp950 million.
