Industrial and foreign investment in Batam

Overview

Batam is experiencing significant growth in foreign direct investment and industrial development. In the first half of 2026, South Korean investment in the region surged to Rp1.175 trillion, a massive increase compared to 2025. This investment has shifted focus heavily toward the transportation, warehousing, and telecommunications sectors, with a particular emphasis on aviation services and the Hang Nadim International Airport supply chain.

Simultaneously, Indonesia has launched a US$500 million project to establish a semiconductor and high-tech industrial hub in the Wiraraja I Industrial Estate. This initiative, involving US-based companies Tynergy Technology Group and Essence Global, aims to integrate semiconductor manufacturing, AI smart factories, and sodium-ion battery assembly. The project follows a broader cooperation agreement valued at up to US$31.6 billion.

Expanding on these industrial efforts, BP Batam is preparing an 80-hectare production and export zone for MSMEs called Batam Maju. This zone intends to target markets in Singapore, the United States, and China through four clusters: industrial components, processed seafood, consumer products, and electronics.

Furthermore, construction is scheduled to begin in early 2027 for the Wiraraja Green Renewable Energy and Smart-Eco Industrial Park. Spanning an initial 150 hectares on Galang Island, the park aims to integrate silica sand downstreaming with semiconductor ecosystems, complementing the Rempang Eco City development. In the healthcare sector, RSBP Batam recently received the Indonesia Excellent Hospital award.
