Infant death investigation in Adelaide

Overview

Following a welfare check on October 10 at the Tollgate Hotel in Glen Osmond, Adelaide, emergency services discovered the body of a baby boy estimated to be six to seven months old. Investigators believe the infant may have been deceased for up to a month.

Benjamin Nicholas Houghton, 40, and Yue Ning Lieu, 42, were arrested and charged with criminal neglect and concealing human remains. The couple, who had moved to South Australia from Queensland earlier this year, appeared in court and were remanded in custody until May.

As the investigation continues, police have returned to the motel to seize and catalogue items, including clothing and cash. Police Commissioner Grant Stevens described the matter as a ‘very sensitive ongoing investigation’ and confirmed that a post-mortem examination has been completed.
