Influenza vaccination campaigns in Germany

Overview

Health authorities and professional associations in Germany are promoting influenza vaccinations ahead of the respiratory infection season.

In the Rhein-Neckar-Kreis region, the health department has urged citizens to vaccinate to protect vulnerable populations, noting that pharmacies are providing accessible options. A nationwide vaccination action week is scheduled for November 9 to 15, including a ‘Long Night of Vaccination’ on November 12.

Expanding on this initiative, the State Pharmacists' Association of Baden-Württemberg (LAV) has also recommended timely vaccinations. The LAV highlighted that specially trained pharmacists can provide vaccinations and consultations as an alternative to medical appointments. The association noted that the Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) specifically recommends high-dose or adjuvanted vaccines for individuals aged 60 and over, as well as for pregnant women and those with chronic illnesses.
