Infrastructure and road improvements in Chihuahua
Overview
Infrastructure development in Chihuahua has focused on both federal highway safety and municipal road maintenance.
In August 2026, Mexico’s Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transport (SICT) inaugurated the country’s first ‘Parador Seguro con Servicios Integrales’ (Safe Rest Stop with Integral Services) on Federal Highway 45. The facility, representing an investment of over 100 million pesos, provides amenities such as fuel dispensers, maintenance workshops, and rest areas designed to reduce fatigue-related accidents for heavy transport operators.
Following this, the Municipality of Chihuahua implemented urban road rehabilitation projects involving an investment of over 62.5 million pesos. These works addressed 180,000 square meters of streets and avenues to improve circulation and pedestrian safety, specifically repairing damage and sinkholes caused by heavy rainfall.
