Infrastructure and urban development in Southeast Europe

Overview

Infrastructure and urban development projects are being implemented across several Balkan and Central European regions.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the “Novo Trebinje” megaproject has moved forward with a tender for a 126-meter bridge over the Trebišnjica river, part of an urban expansion designed for 25,000 residents. Additionally, a UNDP-funded initiative in Krupa na Vrbasu is working to renovate the Kameni Most site to support sustainable tourism.

In Croatia, local authorities are expanding cyclotourism infrastructure in Nin with a new bicycle path and replacing older structures with wider bridges in Zlatar.

In Serbia, Kraljevo is facing challenges regarding waste management, as the city continues to use an expired landfill while seeking funds for a new ten-year management plan. Meanwhile, in Slovenia, the municipality of Kranj has issued a 17.1 million euro tender for extensive sewage, water, and road infrastructure to connect residents and businesses to communal systems.
