Infrastructure developments in Poland

Infrastructure developments are progressing in northeastern Poland. In the Olsztyn region, construction is underway on a new two-lane entrance to the city on provincial road DW527, which includes a new roundabout, a viaduct, and pedestrian infrastructure. Nad Łyną Street is scheduled to reopen to traffic on October 19 to provide relief for drivers using detours.

In Olecko, passenger rail services are set to return after a 14-year hiatus. Starting in mid-December, the long-distance IC ‘Gryf’ train will connect the city to destinations such as Szczecin and Olsztyn. Regional train services are also expected to begin operating between Olecko and Ełk in January 2027.

Broader national expressway projects are also active. On the S8 expressway, repairs are scheduled to begin on September 21, 2026, to address 108 cracked concrete slabs between the Poręba and Brok junctions. Routine inspections by the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) identified the damage on the roadway heading toward Białystok. The contractor, PORR, will perform these works under warranty at its own expense, resulting in single-lane traffic and an 80 km/h speed limit. The work will be conducted in stages, with the first phase expected to conclude by the end of October 2026, followed by further repairs to the left lane in spring 2027.

Additionally, the S10 expressway project near Płock is progressing, with officials stating that section is expected to be ready by 2030. Meanwhile, construction of the S19 expressway between Lubartów and Lublin has reached approximately 60 percent completion, with the contractor Duna managing the 835.7 million PLN project.
