Institutional adoption of tokenized gold assets

Overview

The market for tokenized gold assets has seen increased institutional utility through new lending and yield-generating products.

In early September 2026, Arch Lending, an alternative-asset platform operated by ChainFi, Inc., announced it would accept PAX Gold (PAXG) and Tether Gold (XAUT) as loan collateral. The platform provides fixed 12-month terms with funding in US dollars or USDC, utilizing Anchorage Digital for custodial services. This development follows a period of significant growth in the tokenized gold category, which recorded $90.7 billion in spot trading volume during the first quarter of 2026.

Later in the month, Paxos Labs introduced PAXGy, a token backed by PAX Gold designed to provide exposure to the institutional gold-leasing market. Unlike standard bullion tokens, PAXGy aims to increase in value relative to gold by deploying underlying reserves to vetted institutional borrowers. While the product allows holders to potentially redeem positions for more gold than initially held, Paxos Labs noted that returns are not guaranteed and involve credit, liquidity, and market risks.
