Insurgent activity in Arunachal Pradesh

Overview

On September 29, 2026, an Assam Rifles patrol was ambushed near the India-Myanmar border in the Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh. The attack occurred near Nampong Nallah in an area where border fencing is being constructed. The incident resulted in the death of Havildar Jangkhokai Kuki and left four other personnel injured.

Initial reports suggested the ambush may have been carried out by the NSCN-K-YA insurgent group. Subsequent reports confirmed that the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (K-YA) and the Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) issued a joint statement claiming responsibility for the attack against the 21 Assam Rifles personnel stationed in the area.

In response to the ambush, security forces and district police launched large-scale search operations in the surrounding forests. Security agencies in the northeastern border regions have been placed on high alert due to the movement of insurgent groups across the international border.
