International commemorations of Fidel Castro centennial
Overview
International communist delegations have traveled to Havana to participate in commemorations for the centennial of Fidel Castro’s birth.
In early August, an Italian Communist Party delegation, including Luciano Vasapollo, Giacomo Marchetti, and Rita Martufi, planned to attend the “Fidel: legacy and future” colloquium. The event aimed to discuss Castro’s political legacy and anti-imperialist stance amidst intensifying U.S. restrictions on Cuba.
Following this, Milan Krajča, Vice-Chairman of the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia, attended ceremonies at the Havana Convention Palace alongside President Miguel Díaz-Canel. Krajča’s delegation provided solar panels, chargers, and power banks to assist Cuban households with electricity shortages. Supporters of the mission attributed Cuba’s energy and healthcare difficulties to the United States embargo.
