International long-distance running competitions
Overview
International long-distance and endurance running competitions have seen significant participation from various athletes.
In September, Brazilian athletes competed in major events, including Laurindo Nunes Neto’s pursuit of a South American record at the IAU 100 km Ultramarathon World Championships in Spain. Simultaneously, the Brazilian Paralympic team secured 11 medals, including seven golds, during the Grand Prix de Cali in Colombia, highlighted by Maria Clara Araújo’s record-breaking performance in the 100m T35.
By October, focus shifted to marathon and extreme ultra-endurance events. Mexican Olympian Laura Galván prepared for her marathon debut at the Chicago Marathon to target future Olympic qualification. In Spain, Guzmán Calderón won the Backyard Ultra Curillas ‘El Último Arriero’, covering 214.59 kilometers over approximately 28 hours in difficult weather conditions.
