Overview

Agios Nikolaos, Crete, is hosting a series of international sporting competitions in September 2026.

On September 19 and 20, the city will host the Cliff Diving 2026 competition at Lake Voulismeni. This event, which marks the eighth consecutive year for the city as host, features seventeen international athletes from Europe and the Americas competing from cliffs approximately 20 meters high. The competition is an initiative of the Municipality of Agios Nikolaos to promote sports tourism.

Following this, from September 18 to 23, the region will host the ‘Agios Nikolaos on SUP 2026 – Paddle Europe SUP Championships & SUP World Cup’. This event is expected to draw over 200 athletes from more than 20 countries. Organized by the Hellenic Canoe-Kayak, Stand Up Paddleboarding and Surfing Federation in collaboration with local and international bodies, the competition includes the Vrachasi Municipal Unit as part of a strategy to decentralize sporting activities within the municipality.
