Investigation into death of Łukasz Litewka

Overview

The investigation into the death of Left Party politician and activist Łukasz Litewka, who died on April 23 after being struck by a vehicle while cycling in Dąbrowa Górnicza, remains a point of contention between his family and authorities.

While a 57-year-old driver has been charged with causing a fatal accident, Litewka’s father, Zdzisław Litewka, has criticized the probe for its perceived lack of thoroughness. The family has raised the possibility of murder and questioned why a specialized team was not appointed to examine the circumstances.

The District Prosecutor's Office in Sosnowiec has defended the proceedings, stating that all hypotheses remain under consideration. Authorities have commissioned a 200-page expert report and additional specialized studies, with the investigation extended until January 2027.

In addition to legal concerns, the family has established the Łukasz Litewka Foundation to continue the deceased's work, following management disputes within the previous #TeamLitewka Foundation.
