Investigation into Hungarian National Sports Agency
Overview
The Hungarian Ministry of Interior has filed five reports against the National Sports Agency (NSÜ) following an audit that began in July. Minister Gábor Pósfai stated that the investigations involve actions that allegedly placed the Hungarian state at a disadvantage and caused significant financial loss to public assets.
The audit focuses on the mismanagement of real estate and movable property. Specific allegations include the circumvention of mandatory public tenders, the provision of state properties for free or indefinite use, and the setting of rental fees significantly below market value. The ministry also cited overpriced procurements, including an instance where a jump rope was purchased for approximately 1.3 million forints.
These legal actions follow the dismissal of NSÜ CEO Péter Bíró on September 7. The ongoing investigation continues to examine the agency’s contractual obligations and the management of strategic sports facilities and multifunctional halls.
